The different types of circular CHART used in astrology.
NATAL CHART
A chart drawn up for the 'Time of Birth' (time, date and place of birth). Also known as a Birth Chart (see also: Inception) or sometimes a Radical Chart ("The term radical chart is often used interchangeably with the term radix chart because both indicate a "root" or primary natal chart."- AstroWiki). Without a known birth time set the chart for 12:00 noon so that the planets will be in the middle of their possible positions for that day and disregard the Ascendant and Houses. Although some astrologers will set the birth time for sunrise or the Ascendant to Aries 0°, personally I wouldn't recommend it.
*
RECTIFIED CHART
If the birth time is not known but the date & place is and you have a good deal of astrological skill and understanding it is possible to create a birth chart using rectification. This requires using events in a persons life triggered by transits and progressions to figure out the likely time of birth. Events such as marriage, birth of children, sickness, loss of loved ones, beginning and ending of employment and moving home.
*
PROGRESSED CHART
The Natal chart pushed forward one day from the date of birth for every year of life is the easiest to use and understand and is more correctly referred to as Secondary Progressions. The simplest way to think of it is that the Natal chart grows and matures with us so we are continually journeying through our astrology, learning and changing throughout our life.
There are other ways of progressing the birth chart such as Primary Directions and Tertiary Progressions but they are less well used.
*
NATAL + PROGRESSED CHART
Whilst it is still worthwhile viewing the Progressed Chart as a stand alone chart to see how Progressed planets and points interact solely with each other the best way to view progressions in my opinion is to place them around the Natal chart to give them context and show how the Progressed planets and points aspect the Natal planets and points.
*
NATAL + TRANSITS CHART
The Natal chart with the current placements of the planets for any given day with the current planets arranged around the outside of the Natal chart. When a transiting planet aspects a natal planet or sensitive point it triggers an event, physiological or psychological change or response depending on the planet or planets involved.

MUNDANE ASTROLOGY CHART
1) "Mundane astrology is the branch of astrology whose subjects are the events of geographical regions, places, countries and the whole world (as opposed to individual astrology). There are different approaches to mundane astrology, that include analysis, interpretation and prediction of political and economic developments, historical developments & natural or man-made disasters. A chart is usually drawn up when considering events related to a group of people, such as companies, clubs, countries, and so on. For this to work there must be a specific event such as the signing of a treaty or some other document or a clearly defined ritual that marks the beginning of a new process." - AstroWiki.

Astrological Interpretation of History: attempts to interpret the connection between celestial patterns and historical events in the human sphere...
Omen: to some extent, mundane astrologers continue the historical use of omens when they use unusual transit patterns & eclipses...
Death: prediction is also considered part of mundane astrology in Asia, modern mundane astrologers have distanced themselves from this practice...
2) MUNDANE TRANSIT: A Chart of the moment showing the current placements of the planets and the aspects they are making to each other at this time. Mundane transits affect the whole of humanity equally on a psychological, spiritual and physical level.

SYNASTRY
Synastry charts are used to see how any two astrological charts relate to each other created by placing two astrology charts around the same wheel, one on the inside and the other on the outside (a bi-wheel). In Relationship Astrology you can use a synastry chart to look at Natal chart aspects or progressed charts between two people or one persons progressions to the others natal. In Mundane Astrology they are used to view two charts in relation to an event, person, country or other relevant data.
*
DAVISON RELATIONSHIP CHART
A chart created using the Davison technique of finding the mid-point of the two peoples time of birth, the mid-point for the two peoples date of birth and the mid-point for the Latitude and Longitude for the two peoples place of birth co-ordinates. This is considered in my opinion the best chart for seeing a relationship in it’s totality.
*
COMPOSITE
Used primarily for long-term relationships it is created by finding the mid-point for each planet and point in two peoples natal chart; ie. She has the Sun on Cancer 12° and He has his Sun on Scorpio 4° so the mid-point is Virgo 8° this will be the Sun in the composite chart. You can also progress the composite chart using the mid-points for the couples progressed planets and points.
*
EVENT CHART
A chart drawn up for an event by the same method as a natal chart but delineated differently. It is for something that has happened or is expected to happen such as a wedding. Especially used in Mundane Astrology to look at tragic or political occurrences. Just like a Natal chart you will need the time, date and place to create an event chart accurately. It is up to the skill of the Astrologer and the specific branch of Astrology they practice that determines how they delineate Event charts but here are a few basic rules according to Modern Western Astrology. When delineating an Event chart the planets on the angles (AC/DC axis & MC/IC axis) have the most power. The AC is the perpetrator or anyone who initiates an event, the AC ruler describes the perpetrator/initiator according to what the planet represents and its house/sign placement. The DC is any victim or person the event is happening to, the H7 ruler describes the victim/s according to what the planet is and its house/sign placement. The MC is publicity and onlookers, how the event is perceived on a global scale, the MC ruler is public reaction to the event according to the planet/ house/sign placement. The IC is the end of the event, the IC ruler describes the conclusion of the event by what the planet rules and its house/sign placement. Other planets and house cusps signs/rulers fill in the other details of the event. Any planet in an Angular House (H1,H4,H7,H10) is of particular importance. Depending on the Event certain Asteroids and Fixed Stars are used and it is up to the Astrologer to decide which Asteroids (Uranians,Centaurs,TNO) and Fixed Stars are needed ie. Plane Crash - Icarus. Maritime Disaster - Sedna, Iris. Massacre - Chaos, Apophis, Nemisis, Pholus, Varuna. fixed stars - Algol, Betelguese, Scheat.

COUNTRY CHART
A Natal chart can be created for anything if you know the details of it’s ‘birth’, so a useful way of looking at a Country with astrology is by using it’s inception details the same way you would for a person but not all countries founding data is available or even agreed upon. For example there are several charts for the USA depending on when you believe it became independent to the exactitude.
*
HORARY CHART
A chart drawn up at the time, date and place a question was asked to reveal it’s answer by use of the rules of Horary astrology. In Horary astrology the word Radical means a valid chart that has an ascendant of between 3 – 27 degrees. For more on the Art of Horary Craft visit the 'Declination' HORARY page.
*
ELECTIONAL CHART
A chart used to decide when Astrology indicates it is best to do something like starting a new venture to maximise the chances of success or to decide when it is best to avoid doing something as according to the Astrology of the chart for the time, date and location it may not be propitious. ie. getting married, trying for a baby, having an operation, asking for a promotion or buying/selling property etc.

Other charts or chart methods frequently used by Modern Astrologers…
SOLAR ARC
A different way of progressing your Natal chart than using Secondary Progressions. You can do this mentally by adding 1° to all your planets and points for every year of your life. Best used with the Natal Chart showing Secondary Progressions and Solar Arc progressions around the outside.
*
SOLAR RETURN
It’s your Birthday! The Sun is in the same place every year to a 0.5 degree. So your Solar Return Chart is usually the same day as your Birthday, the positions of the planets this day the day the Sun is in the same place as when you were born has special significance for your year ahead. The Solar Return chart is a predictive chart for the coming year and not to be confused with your Solar Arc chart which is a progressed version of your Natal chart.
*
LUNAR RETURN
A chart for the day the Moon returns to the exact position you have it in your Natal Chart. This occurs roughly every 27 days.
*
VENUS RETURN
A chart for the day that Venus returns to the exact position you have it in your Natal Chart. This occurs roughly once a year.
*
MARS RETURN CHART
A Chart for the day that Mars returns to its position in the natal chart, i.e. at the moment of birth. This occurs roughly every two years.

HELIO CHART/ HELIOCENTRIC HOROSCOPE
Based on the positions of the planets including Earth as seen from the Sun unlike the Geocentric Model. Geocentric Astrology (such as Tropical Astrology which is what most Western Astrologers use) remains popular because we are actually here on Earth, and as such perceive the planets to be moving around us, when in reality the Solar System is Heliocentric, all planets move around the Sun at the centre.
"Astrologers today continue to work with the geocentric model, not through ignorance of the sun-centred solar system, but because planetary movement as seen from a human, earth-based standpoint forms the basis of their calculations. A geocentric horoscope is simultaneously a stylized version of the heavens and a symbolic depiction of an earth-based human character or an event." - AstroWiki
Helio Charts are best used by those well versed in Heliocentric Astrology but can offer some insight with Relationship Astrology where they are use in Synastry and interpreted much like Geocentric Charts. Point of note; Helio Charts are devoid of Houses and the AC/DC and IC/MC axis.
