- SINGLETON: The only Planet on one side of a Chart or in an Element, Quality or House Type. ie. if there is only one Planet above or below the AC/DC axis or to the left or right of the IC/MC axis then this is the Singleton. Again if there is only one Planet in the Chart in say for instance a Fire sign (element), or if there is only one Planet in lets say a Cardinal sign (quality) or only one Planet in maybe the Angular Houses (house type) then this is the Singleton. The Singleton dominates the whole chart and it's said that if you only interpret the Singleton then you have the key to the whole Chart/Personality.
HEMISPHERE: In Circular Charts it refers to separate halves of the chart.
- So the TOP half of the chart above the AC/DC axis is often called the Diurnal Hemisphere (if you were born during daylight your Sun will be here in your Natal Chart), the MC is always located here and is South in a Horary Chart, it contains Houses 7/8/9/10/11/12.
- The BOTTOM half of the chart below the AC/DC axis is the Nocturnal Hemisphere (if you were born during the night your Sun will be here), the IC is always located here and is North in a Horary Chart, it contains Houses 1/2/3/4/5/6.
- LEFT half of the chart, left of the MC/IC axis is the Eastern Hemisphere (if you were born at sunrise your Sun will be near the AC as the Sun rises in the East - also the Eastern Point is always located in this hemisphere) it contains Houses 10/11/12/1/2/3.
- RIGHT half of the chart, right of the MC/IC axis is the Western Hemisphere (if you were born at sunset your Sun will be near the DC as the Sun sets in the West, also the Vertex of a chart is always located in this hemisphere) it contains Houses 4/5/6/7/8/9.
- CHART PATTERNS/JONES PATTERNS: According to US Astrologer Marc Edmund Jones groupings of planets in charts create patterns that are said to affect our personalities, they are:
- ASPECT PATTERNS:
- STELLIUM = 3 or more planets conjunct (0°) each other ie. in the same place, especially in the same sign, allowing an orb of 10° is common in Natal Charts, some use up to 12° for Sun or Moon. For example: Someone born with Venus 0° Libra, Moon 1° Libra, Mars 2° Libra has a tight Stellium between these planets but someone born with Venus 1° Libra, Moon 11° Libra, Mars 6° Libra has a loose Stellium which will be less potent.
- T-SQUARE = 2 planets in opposition (180°) are both squared (90°) by a 3rd planet forming a set-square/t-square triangle pattern.
- GRAND CROSS = 2 planets in opposition are both squared by 2 planets also in opposition to each other creating a cross pattern.
- GRAND TRINE = 3 planets all 120° apart creating an equilateral triangle pattern.
- KITE = A Grand Trine joined by a 4th planet that is sextile 2 of the Grand Trine planets whilst opposition the 3rd Grand Trine planet.
- GRAND SEXTILE (Star of David) = 6 planets all 60° apart creating a six-sided star hexagram pattern.
- YOD (Finger of God) = 2 planets sextile (60°) each other both quincunx/inconjunct (150°) a 3rd planet (this planet is the focal point).
- DUPLICATED: Signs covering more than one House Cusp.
- INTERCEPTED: Signs that aren't on any House Cusp and the Planets in them.
- DECLINATION: The arc of a planet in degrees 01°+ to 90°+ North (positive) or 01°- to 90°- South (negative) of the Celestial Equator (0°).
- OUT OF BOUNDS: When the Declination of a planet is more than 23°26'22" it is said to be 'out of bounds'. That is to say it is no longer within the area between 'the tropic of cancer-tropic of capricorn'. It is often abbreviated to 'OOB'. When a planet is OOB it is said to behave erratically, eccentrically, uniquely or unnaturally and is often considered troublesome or dangerous in Mundane Astrology depending on planet/sign.
- In Natal charts 'out of bounds' planets, if unafflicted, are said to bestow a gift upon the native through the planet/sign placement. ie. OOB Mars in Gemini can show a gifted marathon runner. Where as OOB Mercury in Gemini would be a gifted salesman/woman.
- If afflicted by oppositions/squares OOB planets are said to be mischievous, the OOB Mars in Gemini could be someone who is always running away from responsibility and the OOB Mercury in Gemini could be someone who is good at talking their way out of trouble but very bad at listening, especially to good advice.
- Planets that can be OOB: (often) Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, (rarely) Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto.
- Planets that can never be OOB: Sun, Saturn, Neptune, Chiron.
- OOB Ephemeris
- PLANETARY MOTION: How fast a planet moves degrees and signs. The Moon is fastest, Pluto the slowest. However due to planets (other than the Moon and Sun) turning Retrograde motion, Stationary and Direct the planetary motion is best seen with an Ephemeris.
- STATION POINTS: When a Planet stays on the same Degree and Minute whilst coming out of or going into Retrograde motion it is said to have a pronounced effect on mundane events and making the planet more potent to those born with it in their charts. (STATION POINTS Part 2)
- MID-POINTS: The potent degree found midway between two planets degrees or degrees of sensitive points within 180° (this is the 'near midpoint', the rarely used 'far midpoint' is opposite). ie. if the AC is 15° Aries and Jupiter is 15° Virgo then the middle of the shortest distance between them is the Mid-point, so the Mid-point is 0° Cancer expressed as AC/Jup=0°Can (this is the near midpoint, therefore 0°Cap is the far midpoint).
