One of the most interesting ‘planets’ in relationship astrology is Juno – the marriage maker and heart-breaker. Juno is actually an asteroid or minor planet with a big impact on our ability to relate and the people we relate to. The symbol for Juno is an asterisk atop a cross.
In mythology (Roman) Juno is Queen of the Gods, married to head god Jupiter and chiefly governs Marriage, Love, Women, Childbirth & Newborns. She is associated with youthfulness, vigour and fertility and considered a wise counsel and eminent defender sometimes depicted in armour wielding a sword she is often shown seated with a peacock and a scorpion, as in the picture above.
Although primarily concerned with marriage Juno is also relevant in business partnerships and other types of symbiotic unions where two separate entities need to connect at a deep psychological and emotional level and work together as a harmonic unit. Juno is most closely linked to the signs of Libra and Scorpio and shares some of their qualities.
However Juno doesn’t always bring harmony to these relationships, it is noted that in the sign of Scorpio Juno can be incredibly disruptive inducing jealousy and mistrust and in the sign of Libra some casual cruelty is often apparent. So sign placings are important for delineating how well Juno will behave in someone’s chart as well as the type of partner we end up with.
The aspects made to Juno reveal the ease of expression, so we see squares and oppositions as bringing mostly negative traits and trines, sextiles and conjunctions as largely positive effects. Lastly the house placing of Juno will show in what sphere of life partnerships are important and what form of influence the individuals partner will take in their life.
Many Astrologers who use Juno believe that whilst the DC (descendant) in our natal chart shows the type of partner we are most attracted to, Juno in our natal chart reveals the type of partner we will eventually end up marrying or enter into a long-term relationship with that is like a marriage.
When using Juno in Synastry it seems to work best as conjunctions or oppositions particularly the Dominant partner’s Juno aspecting to the Receptive partner’s Mars, Sun and AC. Or the Receptive partners Juno aspecting to the Dominant partner’s Venus, Moon and DC. Also consider Juno to Juno by house, sign and Juno ruler (the planet ruling the sign Juno is in) and Juno progressions especially to one of the planets previously mentioned.
